The new bestseller list is the last update I can offer you for this year. Because of a recent illness I haven't been able to write new reviews. And now we'll start our christmas vacation until the beginning of January. During which I will definitely finish "The Fiery Cross" by Diana Gabaldon ... I'm half through and it's great!
To all the faithful visitors of Bookworm's Lair I wish a wonderful christmas season and a great start into 2002. Please come back again next year. Doro :-) |
Sunday December 2, 2001
To celebrate the first advent sunday here's the review to "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham. Perfect for the pre-christmas-season. |
Sunday November 18, 2001
November is Anne-Rice-Month. Here is the review of the latest part of the Vampire Chronicles "Blood and Gold", the story of Marius. |
Thursday November 1, 2001
Is there a better way to spend Halloween than with vampires, werewolves and a good horror novel? Time for the complete review of the third Anita Blake novel "Circus of the Damned" by Laurell K. Hamilton. |
Sunday October 21, 2001
A short but wonderful story: "Novecento" by the Italian author Alessandro Baricco. Unfortunately this novel hasn't been translated into English yet. But maybe you'll recognize the movie with Tim Roth as the "Pianist of the Ocean". |
Thursday September 20, 2001
New stories from Sequoyah, Oklahoma: the second novel by Billie Letts, "The Honk and Holler opening soon", also takes place there. But it's no sequel to "Where the Heart is". Even though some strange characters sit around again at the local diner ... |
Thursday September 6, 2001
The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton continues, this time with a long review for "The Laughing Corpse" and a Little Worm for "The Lunatic Cafe". |
Saturday September 1, 2001
As announced earlier here is the complete review of "Fever Season", the second historical Benjamin January crime thriller by Barbara Hambly. |
Wednesday July 11, 2001
On the Michael Crichton-page there are five new Little Worms (short reviews). After all the man has written a lot that's worth reading. |
Sunday July 8, 2001
For an author his second novel is often much more important and difficult to write than the first. Thomas Staab was able to follow up his amazing vampire novel "Vampire's Waltz" with another unique horror story: "Heart of Ice, Blood of Fire". |
Tuesday June 19, 2001
A must have for every large homepage: the SEARCH. Now also available at Bookworm's Lair. Either as an advanced search with many different criteria on its own search page (also available from the menue bar at the top of this page). Or directly through the search field on the author page. May you find all you're looking for! |
Sunday June 17, 2001
A new author with a great vampire-series has settled in Bookworm's Lair: Laurell K. Hamilton. The series starts with "Guilty Pleasures" but you won't have to wait long for the next two installments. For the second part "The Laughing Corpse" there's already a 'Little Worm' which will be replaced by a longer review soon. |
Tuesday June 4, 2001
The alphabetical list of authors on the main page got a little bit too long. Therefore bigger changes were necessary. Bookworm's Lair now has its own Main Page from where one can reach every other page very conveniently. The book reviews can now be reached at the new Authors Page where I grouped the reviewed books into categories. When you're interested for example in horror-novels you can find all reviews regarding the genre in one category. The same goes with romance, biographies or thrillers. And there's still an alphabetical list of authors. All right? |
Tuesday May 22, 2001
Finally ... the review of the fourth part of Diana Gabaldon's Highlander-Saga is online: "Drums of Autumn". |
Sunday May 20, 2001
Little worm paid a visit to John Grisham and left seven new short reviews. I had to leave out two of Grishams works because I couldn't remember anything to say about them. Guess I have to read them again ;-). |
Sunday May 13, 2001
From many authers I've read many more books than the ones reviewed here. But to write a good review one should remember the book quite well. And with some books it was too long ago. But I can still say if I've liked them or not. That's why there's a new family member at Bookworm's Lair: the "Little Worm". With a click at the link a small window opens with a short comment on the book. The Little Worm starts with the books of Anne Rice, Nicholas Sparks and Helen Fielding. More authors will follow soon. |
Saturday April 28, 2001
I guess it shows that lately I've only read very long novels ... but now the large pauses between reviews are over. Today there's "The Seville Communion" by Artuor Pérez-Reverte. |
Sunday March 18, 2001
It's time to finally read "It" by Stephen King. Don't miss a masterpiece of the genre! |
Monday March 5, 2001
A great book from a (momentarily) unknown author: when you like vampire stories you shouldn't miss "Vampire's Waltz" by Thomas Staab. |
Monday February 19, 2001
Review number 48 at Bookworm's Lair: Clive Barker's "The Damnation Game". To celebrate the fact that I have become editor of the German language Clive Barker category in the Open Directory Project. |
Sunday Febrary 18, 2001
The booklinks page has been updated: under 'Authors' you'll also find Fannie Flagg, Bret Easton Ellis and Amy Tan. And lots of links to 'Online publications' have been added. |
Monday January 25, 2001
The latest novel by Nicholas Sparks, "The Rescue", is worth reading again! |
Tuesday January 9, 2001
The new year starts with a new author-page. It's for Barbara Hambly, whose historical mystery "A Free Man of Color" is a must for every New Orleans-fan (and those who still have to become fans go this way first). |
Thursday December 21, 2000
Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year to all visitors of Bookworm's Lair!!
I don't want to start my two-week winter vacation without a new review. For Christmas it's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" by J.K. Rowling. See you next year :-) |
Thursday December 14, 2000
The new book review is from the 'The Crow' series: 'Quoth the Crow' by David Bischoff. |
Sunday November 26, 2000
Finally even I have arrived at the third part of the Harry Potter-saga. Here is the review of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". |
Saturday November 18, 2000
It's just in ... the review of Anne Rice's new novel "Merrick", currently number 7 on the New York Times bestseller list. |
Sunday November 12, 2000
The bestseller lists have been updated (lots of movement on the US paperback list!) and there's something new to read: "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks. Have fun! |
Sunday November 5, 2000
Our vacation is over and the update of the website is on its way again. First there were the bestseller lists and the answers to the book questionnaire. Regarding the reviews I brought lots of new stuff with me from New Orleans ... but I have to read it first ;-). New bookreviews will be live from next week on. |
Tuesday October 24, 2000
The third review in one week: "Ploughing Potter's Field" by Phil Lovesey. But this huge amount of news has a reason: I'm signing off for two weeks of vacation and didn't want to leave you without anything to read. In the second week of November the reviews and bestseller lists will continue. |
Sunday Oktober 22, 2000
Here it is: the third part of the highland-saga by Diana Gabaldon, "Voyager"! |
Wednesday October 18, 2000
Finally ... a new review! "The Vintner's Luck" by Elizabeth Knox, the story of a friendship between an angel and a vintner. |
Sunday September 17, 2000
I've read it some time ago and finally here's the review of Clive Barker's "The Great and Secret Show". |
Wednesday August 16, 2000
In my vacation I finally had time to read an Anne Rice novel again: Taltos. |
Wednesday July 26, 2000
There's a new review: "The Saving Graces" by Patricia Gaffney.
And on some pages you'll find a new feature: book recommendations. If you, for example, like 'The Saving Graces' you find a small list of titles which may also interest you at the end of the page. It's still in the works. |
Sunday July 16th, 2000
Bookworm's Lair received the German Lesertreff Award. Many thanks!
Two things changed on the Bestseller lists page: from now on the New York Times publishes its online version of the bestseller lists one week ahead of the printed version. That's why it seems as if we've skipped a week. But the rankings of last week are correct!
Additionally they've started a childrens bestseller list this week. Therefore the four Harry Potter books will not be shown anymore on the regular hardcover- and paperback-bestseller lists. Too bad, but maybe now other authors will also get a chance of reaching the number 1 spot of the NYT lists.
And then there's a new book review: "Dragonfly in Amber" by Diana Gabaldon. |
Wednesday July 12th, 2000
As soon as I start making announcements about new reviews (on the bottom of Bookworm's Lair's main page) something else comes up: J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". |
Sunday July 2nd, 2000
Not new, but worth reading and full of controversy: "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis. |
Sunday June 25th, 2000
Review number 30 on Bookworm's Lair is a bestseller for quite some time now: 'Timeline' by Michael Crichton. By the way: don't forget to check out what's hot right now on the bestseller page. |
Sunday June 11th, 2000
Anyone who likes historical novels will love The Fencing Master by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The story centers around power, intrigue, a mysterious woman and a deadly fencing thrust which can (almost) not be parried. |
Monday May 29th, 2000
Two nice people were ready today to fill out my book-questionnaire. Their answers can be seen at Book Answers. |
Sunday May 28th, 2000
An incredible family saga about power, ghosts, eroticism and immortality. Curious? Then you don't want to miss the review of 'Galilee' by Clive Barker. |
Sunday, 14. Mai 2000
A great story for your vacation: 'Where the Heart is' by Billie Letts. If you've already seen the movie, you have to read the book now!
Monday May 1st, 2000
Explorers, expeditions, polar ice: do you like adventures? Then have a look at the new review of 'The Voyage of the Narwhal' by Andrea Barrett.
Sunday April 23rd, 2000
Besides all the rather 'exotic' books which nobody knows and which have never appeared on any bestseller list there's a review of a better known book today: 'Angela's Ashes' on the Frank McCourt-page.
Tuesday April 16th, 2000
A new author-page has been added: Stephen King with a complete bibliography and the review of 'Salem's Lot'.
Wednesday April 5th, 2000
The new thriller by John Grisham is here: The Brethren.
Friday March 24th, 2000
If you know this site and just had a look at the main page you don't have to worry because the reviews are still there. Every author now has his/her own site with a lot of additional information: the complete bibliography, biographical notes and a picture (when available). This also means that the main page won't take as long to load anymore. If you have any additional information or hints for finding missing pictures just send me an e-mail. I would be very grateful!
Montag March 13th, 2000
From now on Bookworm's Lair has its own URL: go to www.bookwormslair.de/books_e.htm for the English language main page and to www.bookwormslair.de/books.htm for the German version . But don't worry: old bookmarks will still work.
Furthermore I'm going to work together with the German site www.lesertreff.de by Patrick Fiekers. Many of my reviews will also be published on his site. And if you're looking for information on German non-fiction books, this is the right address for you.
Monday March 6th, 2000
Apart from the updated bestseller lists there's a new book review: With Nails by Richard E. Grant ... a look into the life of an actor in Hollywood.
Thursday March 2nd, 2000
It was time again for a little refresh of the booklinks site. The list of online-bookstores was expanded (not all links are commented yet, this will come later). In the list of authors new ones were added, for example Poppy Z. Brite, Stephen King and Tom Wolfe. And, if possible, I added new links to the existing entries.
Tuesday February 29th, 2000
In the past the english language booksites were linked to Amazon.de to get further information and the opportunity to order books. This has changed: every title on the english sites of Bookworm's Lair (except for those who are only available in German) is now linked to Amazon.com and books can be ordered directly in the US. I guess this makes much more sense.
Thursday February 17th, 2000
There's a great new feature on Bookworm's Lair, the Book questions. A questionnaire on books: what are you reading right now, which book do you consider totally superfluous, etc. Taking part is really easy: just fill out the text fields and klick on the 'Send'-button. Every entry is published on the Book answers-page. I'm really looking forward to your entry! |
Tuesday February 8th, 2000
Bookworm's Lair received the Cyber-Teddy Award. Isn't he cute?
Friday January 14th, 2000
A new bookreview: Feel this book by Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo.

Wednesday January 12th, 2000
The year 2000 starts really well: "Bookworm's Lair" has received its first award - the German Leselupe-Award for excellent literature-websites.
Monday January 10th, 2000
Vacation is over, it's back to business again. I spent a lot of time reading on the flight from New Orleans to Munich. Therefore I have a new book review for you: The Crow: Clash by Night by Chat Williamson. And I brought a lot of other books from the US ... there are some surprises in store! The bestseller lists are up-to-date again, too.
Monday December 20th, 1999
I'm taking three weeks off. The next update will be on January 10th, 2000. But I won't go without a new review: Fermat's Enigma by Simon Singh. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!! |
Monday December 6th, 1999
The German paperback bestsellers are back. Now the bestseller lists are complete again.
Tuesday November 30th, 1999
I can't update the German paperback bestseller list right now because my source of information is gone. But I'm already looking for a new source and will update it as soon as possible.
Sunday November 28th, 1999
I know, there've been no new book reviews for quite some time. That's not because I don't read anymore, but because I've been busy redesigning the homepage. And that's why the Bookworm's Lair pages have a new navigation. If there's any trouble with this just send me an e-mail. And if you've got some time left please take a look at the new homepage. Some pages are still in German only, but I'm working on an all-English-version right now.
Monday November 15th, 1999
A link to an interesting new author: Rosemarie E. Bishop, author of the 'Moral Vampire Series'. Sounds fascinating. I'll try to get a copy next time I go to the US and write a review.
If you want to link to 'Bookworm's Lair' from your own homepage, please use one of the banners or icons I provided at the bottom of the Links-Page. Simply klick on the image, choose "Save image as..." and link to http://www.bookwormslair.de/books_e.htm. And don't forget to send me an e-mail after you're done.
Thursday November 11th, 1999

Poppy Z Brite.
Monday October 11th 1999
I found a new webring: 'The A to Z of Book Reviews Webring' on the English Site of Bookworm's Lair. There are some interesting pages in it ... and don't forget to come back!!
The bestseller lists were updated as well ... after all it's Monday. |
Thursday September 30th, 1999
I deleted the 'Ring of Books' webring from the homepage because after two weeks of waiting I was not added to the ring. I don't
know why. But I will look for another interesting webring soon. |
Thursday September 16th, 1999
I became a member of the 'Ring of Books' webring. Enjoy your time looking around other booksites (but come back to my
site again!) |

From now on Bookworm's Lair will also be available in English. The titles are still
linked to Amazon.de. Reviews and quotes are always taken from the versions read
and are translated into English. |
Tuesday August 24th, 1999
More links to online bookstores and of course the
actual bestseller lists from CW 34 (as every week, but I don't
mention it here every time). |
Wednesday August 4th, 1999
From now on I'll offer you the actual bestseller lists from
the New York Times, the Spiegel and the Gong ... updated every week! |
Saturday June 19th, 1999
